Herve Piza Withdraws From Togo FA Presidential Race

Herve Piza has withdrawn from the Togo Football Federation (FTF) presidential elections scheduled for January 25.

Herve Piza has withdrawn from the Togo Football Federation (FTF) presidential elections scheduled for January 25.

The withdrawal of the former vice-president of the Togolese FA was announced on Friday following an unfruitful meeting between the Electoral Board and Piza.

Piza cited arguments which his campaign wing believes will compel the election officials to begin the whole nomination process from scratch.

“After deliberating on our position in respect of the upcoming election, we believe that all will be best served by team Notre Football vacating its presidential candidature in the election,” said Piza.

Piza added that he was not giving up entirely, but that his move was the only way to ensure a free and fair election.

The re-election will go ahead in the third week of the month which means that current president Kossi Akpovy will now head FTF for eight years.

He was first elected in 2016 after seeing off the main challenger Germain Wona in the first round and he will serve a fresh four-year-term from next month.

Several other positions are up for grabs when the FTF elections are held during the West African nation governing body’s general assembly is held in Lome.
