Stars was knocked out of the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday after Benin managed to salvage a draw against Cameroon. Kenya relied on Cameroon beating Benin for them to have a chance of progressing to the next round.

Kenya managed to pick three points in group C. They defeated Tanzania 3-2 and lost to Senegal 3-0 and Algeria 2-0.

Sebastien Migne’s side will now shift focus to African Championship (CHAN) qualifiers where they will play Tanzania in the first round. Should they progress to the second round, they will face the winner of the clash between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

FKF have now confirmed that the team will jet on Thursday morning through a statement posted on their official website.

The Kenya National team, Harambee Stars, is set to jet out to Nairobi from Cairo on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at 10.45 pm EAT. The team is expected in Nairobi on Thursday at 3.30 am.

This comes after Kenya picked up a win and two losses in Group C, finishing third behind Algeria and Senegal.

Focus now shifts to the upcoming Africa Nations Championships Qualifiers where Stars take on Tanzania in the first round set to be played this month. The first leg will be played between July 26 and July 28, with the second leg slated for August 4, 2019, in Nairobi.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed, meanwhile, treated the team to a luncheon in Egypt on Tuesday, flanked by Kenyan Ambassador to Egypt H.E Joff Otieno. The Sports CS expressed her congratulatory message to the team for putting up a strong fight despite not booking an automatic round of 16 slot.
