Harambee Stars Announce Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

Kenya has announced their squad for this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt and Togo.

The Harambee Stars coach Jacob Mulee has named his 29-man squad for the two crucial matches with his selection bearing a number of notable absentees, including key players such as Victor Wanyama and Johanna Omolo.

The duo are among the players who are unable to travel due to Covid-19 restrictions, while the size of Mulee’s squad suggests that more players may be withdrawn before the international break begins.

Nonetheless, the Harambee Stars ill still pose a formidable force with a squad that includes Qatar-based Michael Olunga, Morocco-based Masud Juma, Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Anthony Akumu, and Sweden-based duo of Eric Ouma and Joseph Okumu.

Other regulars such as AFC Leopards forward Elvis Rupia, and his Kariobangi Sharks counterpart Erick Kapaito have been included in the squad.

Home-based duo of KCB defender Nahashon Alembi and Ulinzi Stars’ Harun Mwale have been invited for the first time.

Kenya will host Egypt on March 25, 2021, at 7 pm, under floodlights at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, after which they will travel to Togo on Saturday in time for the final match to be played on March 29, 2021.
