2021 AFCON Qualifiers: Egypt Names Squad To Face Kenya And Comoros

Egypt have invited a 28-man squad for their training camp ahead of this month’s Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back qualifiers against Kenya and Comoros.

Egypt have invited a 28-man squad for their training camp ahead of this month’s Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back qualifiers against Kenya and Comoros.

The Pharaohs will travel to Nairobi to face Kenya on 25 March in the penultimate qualifier before taking Comoros in the final qualifier on 29th March in Cairo.

Egypt are in Group G alongside the likes of Togo, Kenya and Comoros with the Pharaohs leading the group with eight points, the same number of points as Coelacanths in second place.

The squad named by Hossam El-Badry comprises of 22 home-based players, as well as Ittihad Jeddah’s defender Ahmed Hegazi, winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan of Aston Villa, Arsenal’s midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Pyramids FC Isma Issa and Ahmed Yasser Rayan are two notable players in line for their senior debuts.

Egypt will start their preparatory camp for the 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on 20 March with participation of the domestic players’ squad.

The Pharaohs were held by Kenya and Comoros in their opening qualifying games for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

El-Badry’s charges returned to winning ways with the two victories over Togo in the third and fourth round of the group stage respectively last November.

Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Ayman Ashraf, Yasser Ibrahim (Al Ahly SC), Omar Gaber, Ali Gabr, Ahmed Ayman Mansour (Pyramids FC), Ahmed Fetouh, Mahmoud El-Wensh (Zamalek SC), Ahmed Hegazi (Ittihad Jeddah SC).

Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal FC), Amr El-Sulya, Hamdi Fathi, Mohamed Magdy Afsha (Al Ahly SC), Tarek Hamed, Ahmed Sayed Zizo (Zamalek SC), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool FC), Mahmoud Trezeguet (Aston Villa FC), Mohamed Farouk, Islam Issa (Pyramids FC), Mostafa Fathi (Smouha SC).
