Guinea Stuns Rwanda In Final Pre-AFCON Friendly

Guinea beat Rwanda 2-0 in their final friendly match ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which starts on January 9.

The Syli Nationale were drawn in Group B alongside Malawi, Senegal and Zimbabwe.

They will start their campaign against Malawi on January 11, before they take on Senegal and Zimbabwe on January 14and January 18 respectively.

Guinea, who are led by former Syli Nationale international Kaba Diawara, had scheduled two friendlies ahead of the AFCON against Rwanda, with both games taking place in Kigali.

Their opening game ended in a 3-0 loss with the East African country, which raised concerns about the team’s performance just a week before the tournament.

However, in their second game, they have managed to beat Rwanda team 2-0, thanks to Naby Keita and Mohamed Bayo goals.

Guinea fielded their key players with the likes of Saidou Saw, Ibrahim Cisse, Mohamed Bayo, Amadou Diawara  and Naby Keita starting for the Syli Nationale.

On the other hand, Rwanda, who failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, fielded local league starts led by Sugira Ernest, Buregeya Prince, Rutanga Eric and Hakizimana Muhadjir.

“This has been a very good friendly match for us because it gives us the opportunity to identify and improve on the weak areas,” said Guinea’s coach Diawara after the match.
