Guinea-Bissau Striker Toni Silva Set To Join FC Tobol

Kazakhstan Premier Liga outfit FC Tobol are set to sign Guinea-Bissau striker Toni Silva after leaving FC Taraz, according to reports.

The Guinea-Bissau international parted ways with Taraz last week after spending one year with the one- time Kazakh league champions.

Silva enjoyed regular time at Taraz whenever he was fit and available for selection, as he recorded four goals and four assists in 17 appearances for the club.

Kazakh publication Vesti is reporting the 27-year-old is set to be unveiled by Tobol after putting pen to paper a long term deal.

“Former Taraz forward Tony Silva is set to become a new player of Tobol,” the website reported on Monday.

The former Liverpool player spent his youth career at Benfica and Chelsea where he was regarded by some as a brighter prospect than Raheem Sterling.

At Liverpool, he trained with the senior squad alongside Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, but could not break through.

Since leaving the English Premier League side nine years ago, Silva has played for ten clubs – from Dagenham and Redbridge to Romanian top-flight side FC Astra Giurgiu.

Born in Bissau, Silva moved with his parents to Portugal where he played for Navigators’ under-17 and U-18 squads.

He later switched his nationality to Guinea-Bissau and made debut in a 3-2 victory over Zambia in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2016.
