Guinea-Bissau Coach Baciro Cande Extends Contract

Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau has agreed to a four-year contract extension with coach Baciro Cande.

Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau has agreed to a four-year contract extension with coach Baciro Cande.

The 52-year-old, who is a former Djurtus defender, has been in charge since 2016 and now has a deal until 2024.

FFGB president Manuel Nasicimento Lopes told reporters that the decision is the governing body’s strongest show of faith in the former international.

“By agreeing to the deal we are demonstrating our faith in Cande beyond the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” he said as translated from Portuguese.

“We are saying that we believe Cande is the right man to take us forward.”

Cande, a former Estrela da Amadora captain, was appointed for the second time as Guinea-Bissau coach in 2016, six years after an initial spell in charge lasted for a decade.

He led Guinea-Bissau to the first Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 2017, and also made it to the 2019 edition that was held in Egypt.

Cande will now be able to make another attempt by completing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Guinea-Bissau are currently placed third in Group I of the qualifiers that has Senegal as log leaders with Congo lying second after two round of matches. E-Swatini is the other team in the group and lie bottom with zero points.
