Gambia’s Colley and Sampdoria Fail to Stop Ronaldo

Juventus this afternoon put their 2-2 tie with Atalanta last Wednesday behind them to beat Sampdoria this afternoon.

Two goals, one in each half, settled it for the runaway Serie A leaders to humble a high-flying Sampdoria.

Former Gambia national team captain Omar Colley –the sole African in the game after Morocco’s Benatia – made it from the start on the back of his convincing involvement in the 2-0 trouncing of Chievo Verona.

That performance prompted gaffer Giampaolo to stick with the Scorpion center-back but this time they fell short of getting the points.

Omar, sidelined from the Gambia national team for his alleged refusal to honor a call-up, put in a brave display despite Sampdoria conceding an opener from Cristiano Ronaldo after only two minutes in the first half.

The former KuPS, Djurgarden IF and KRC Genk seal at the back-four was coming up against the most dreadful of strikers in the world of football for the first time.

The fixture ended 2-1 with the referee giving away two penalties via the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as the Portuguese secured both goals for Juve.

Matters would have ended 2-2 had Sampdoria’s late goal not being flagged following consultation with the VAR once more.

The Gambian has played eight times for Sampdoria since his €7.8M move from Belgium’s KRC Genk July this year.
