Gabon Coach Daniel Cousin Finally Signs Contract After Months of Waiting

Gabon national team head coach Daniel Cousin has finally put pen to paper on his contract, six months after his appointment.

Gabon national team head coach Daniel Cousin has finally put pen to paper on his contract, six months after his appointment.

The government, through the Ministry of Sports, have also paid Cousin his half-year salary arrears after he consequently issued an ultimatum to have his dues cleared by end of February.

The details of the contract are yet to be made public but sources close to the Gabonese Football Association (Fegafoot) say that the coach has signed a two-year renewable contract.

Cousin replaced Juan Antonio Camacho after the former Spain boss won just two matches during his two-year spell.

So far, Cousin has won two matches against South Sudan in AFCON qualifiers and lost one game, by a solitary goal, to Mali.

The government through the ministry of sports is responsible for the national team coach’s payment and his technical bench.

Meanwhile, the country’s sports administrators have promised to give Fegafoot all the necessary support in preparation of the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away against Burundi, despite the difficult economic times in the Central African county.

“Gabon being one of the great football countries in Africa, it will be absurd to miss in Egypt,” said the president of the Fégafoot.

Gabon are currently third in Group C qualifying group with seven points and a win against Burundi will be enough to see them qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations set to be played in Egypt.
