FIBA Women’s World Cup: Senegal Unveils Final Roster

Senegal women’s basketball coach Sheikh Sarr unveils his final roster for the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

Senegal women’s basketball national team head coach Sheikh Sarr has unveiled his final roster of twelve players for the 2018 (September 22-30) FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain.

The final roster was unveiled on Tuesday, September 11, following another phase of the team’s World Cup preparation in France.

Prior to the team’s departure to France, coach Sarr trimmed his initial roster of 19 players to 16, leaving out Maty Fall, Elma Malou, and Madjiguene Sene.

Included in his final roster is 33-year-old Mame-Marie Sy, a selection that has been termed as a surprise.

Marie Sy who was part of Senegalese women’s team at the 2016 Summer Olympic and the 2017 AfroBasket Championship, was earlier left out of the team, but later recalled as reinforcement to the team ahead of the FIBA Women’s World Cup.

Also included in Coach Sarr’s final roster is Ndèyen Fatou Ndiaye Dalva of Saint Louise Basketball Club in Senegal. She will be making her debut on the international scene for the lionesses.

Senegal are pitted in Group D among tough opponents including Olympic and World champions- USA, China, and Latvia.

Bintou Dieme (France), Ndeye Khadidiatou Dieng (Duc, Senegal), Ndèye Fatou Ndiaye Dalva (SLBC, Senegal), Oumou Khaïry Thiam (Portugal), Mame Diodio Diouf (Spain), Yacine Diop (USA), Astou Train (Spain), Aminata Fall (Spain), Aicha Siding (City of Darkar, Senegal), Madonna Diarra (No Club),
Oumou Khaïry Sarr (Spain) and Mame-Marie Sy.
