Erstwhile Southampton manager Mark Wotte has lost his African coaching job of four years.

The 58-year-old, once performance director for the Scottish FA, got axed after his Moroccan U-23 side failed to go beyond the second round.

The Atlas Lions Dream Team bowed out of the Olympic qualifiers having succumbed to DR Congo.

The early exit came much as a disenchantment for the North Africans, leading to the decision to relieve the Dutchman of his managerial duties.

A replacement has not been named yet with that decision expected to be taken at the start of the tournament’s next qualifiers.

After hanging up his boots in 1986, the then defender went on to take charge of ADO Den Haag, FC Lisse, FC Utrecht, Willem II before making his first try at coaching in Africa beginning with Egypt’s Ismaily, Al Ahli Doha then Southampton.
