Ex-Arsenal Star Diawara Confirmed As Guinea Head Coach

Guinean coach Kaba Diawara has been roped to take charge of Syli Nationale in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

FIFA Normalization Committee vice-chair Sega Diallo confirmed Diawara appointment and called on the nation to support the team.

The former Arsenal Star, Diawara succeeds Didier Six who was sacked following Syli Nationale’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals to be staged in Qatar next year.

Diawara will now be tasked with making amends by naming a strong team that will be capable to win African title in the tournament that begins in Cameroon between January 9 and February 6.

He has been serving as Six’s assistant since September 2019 after crossing over from his previous role as team manager of Guinea’s national team.

The 45-year-old gaffer had spells at Toulon, Bordeaux, Arsenal, Marseille and Paris St-Germain during his playing career, while also representing Guinea.

Guinea have been drawn in alongside Senegal, Zimbabwe and Malawi in Group B for the tournament in Cameroon.
