Ethiopia Finishes Second In Oregon At World Athletics Championships

Ethiopia finished second behind USA as the curtains came down on the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, Eugene.

Ethiopia concluded the biennial competition with a total of 10 medals – four gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The United States of America topped the medal standings with 30 medals. Jamaica finished third with 10 medals, followed by Kenya (10 medal) and China, who wrapped up the top five slots with six medals.

But a dismal performance in races Ethiopians have dominated for years is reason to worry.

It was meant to be a bitter ending for Ethiopia in the 2022 World Athletics  Championships, but a second-place finish will suffice.

Selemon Barega finished a distant seven in the 5000metres while Deribe Wrlteji missed women’s 800m  podium finished by a whisker.

Tamirat Tola was the first to open Ethiopia’s medal count, winning gold on in men’s Marathon before world record holder Gidey Letensebet producing a stunning finish in the women’s 10000m to add to the tally.

Gotytom Gebreselase had astonishing finish in the women’s marathon after deciding the unending Ethiopia a versus Kenya contest.

Gudaf Tsegay’s s brilliant display in the 5,000m final won the country’s fourth gold that they snatched from Kenyans who had dominated the race in the 2019 event.
