Esperance de Tunis completed their march to a record-breaking 30th Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 title on Sunday despite being held to 1-1 by Chebba at Stade de Olympique de Rades.

The win took their tally to an unassailable 55 points, nine clear of their closest assailant CS Sfaxien who were 2-1 winners over Etoile du Sahel in an earlier matched played at Stade Taieb Mhiri.

Abdelkader Berdane scored an equalizer at an hour mark as Esperance held on to their title, doing so with three matches to spare.

The Blood and Gold will once again represent Tunisia in next season’s Africa Champions League.

Sfaxien lie second with 46 points and will fight it out with US Monastir for a place in the premier continental club competition.

Esperance is one of the most successful in Tunisia and Africa since its founding over a century ago.

They have lifted four Africa Champions League crowns in their history. The Tunis based club has also finished second four times.
