Eritrea and Uganda are now due to face off to win the 2019 Council for Eastern and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge title in Thursday’s final in the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Eritrea were the first to qualify for the CECFA final by beating defending champions Kenya 4-1 in the Wednesday’s semi-final.

Oscar Wamalwa’s own goal handed the Red Sea Boys the lead before Abel Solomon netted the second after the restart of the second half.

Wamalwa pulled one back for Harambee Stars which turned out to be a consolation goal as Kenya was stunned with two more goals from Robel Kidane and Micheal Grebremasqel.

“I am very happy that my young team is through to the final. We mastered Kenya’s approach and knew what to do,” said Eritrean coach Efrem Haile Alemseghed in the post-match interview.

Meanwhile, Uganda got into the final by besting Tanzania 1-0 in the semi-final match played at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

The record 14-time winners of the regional tournament had to wait until the 86th minute, thanks to Fahad Bayo’s powerful header past Kilimanjaro Stars custodian Aishi Manula.

“I am happy we are through to the final,” said Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry after the match.

Semi-final losers Kenya and Tanzania will renew their rivalry in a third-place playoff on Thursday.
