Emmanuel Adebayor Opens Up About Family Feud

If you recall, in 2015, Emmanuel Adebayor came out in a Facebook post in which he unraveled the disputes between him and his family, labeling them as money-minded and lacking interest in the player as a person, only to strain him financially.

Two years later, in a very recent interview with the BBC, the former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker talked about those claims which he firmly stood by saying, ‘he does not speak to his family.’

“It’s a tough one, it’s a difficult one,” the former Monaco, Arsenal and Manchester City striker told the BBC.

“People say yes, you have to keep it for yourself yes. I have done everything to stay in Real Madrid, but because of my late brother I couldn’t stay there,” Adebayor, who currently plays for Turkish side Istanbul Basakhesir, said.

“Because he sent a letter, an official letter from Adebayor’s family to the club [saying] that they shouldn’t keep me. I’m not saying that’s why they didn’t keep me, but it can be a part of it. Even if it is 10 percent, it is a lot.

“My mum is saying I have never given her 200 dollars before. People who I do not know, I have built houses for them, bought cars for them, so my mum cannot say certain things, my family cannot say certain things.

The now Istanbul Basaksehir striker insisted he ‘sees life in a different way’ adding that he believes he did the right thing in going public on the disruptive affairs within his family.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”But today I am a different person, and my mother gave me the chance to be the person I am today, so I cannot thank her enough or respect her enough. But today I am Adebayor and I have to look after someone else. I do not talk to my family now, as they are not helping me to do my job properly,”[/perfectpullquote]

he added.

“Whenever they call it is to ask for something. [They should] care about me, not just my finances. Blood is thicker than water, so why do you not care about me, just about my accounts? Today the issue is just hanging, but I am happy as I am, I am always happy anyway.”
