Egypt Sack Coach Hossam El-Badry

Egypt have sacked head coach Hossam El-Badry, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced.

The development comes after the Pharaohs were held to a 1-1 draw by Gabon in their 2022 World Cup Group F qualifier on Sunday.

El-Badry’s position was already under scrutiny before the match, and on Monday the Egyptian football hierarchy decided to show him the exit door after 22 months in charge.

“The EFA would like to thank Hossam El-Badry and his technical staff for the work they have done for the national team,” the association said.

During his tenure, the 61-year-old tactician led the Pharaohs in nine games, five of which he won and four he tied.

He leaves the North Africans op of Group F on four points one behind second-placed Libya who can move top if they beat Angola on Tuesday.

El –Badry was appointed as Egypt coach in October 2019 replacing Javier Aguirre who was dismissed after their elimination by South Africa at that year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Pharaohs were one of the favourites to claim an eighth Afcon crown at the start of the continental showpiece, but the hosts bowed out at last 16.
