Domestic Leagues Across Africa

In Tunisia, Esperance de Tunis (ES Tunis) is on a path to end its two-year run without a major trophy this season. The side beat Ben Guerdane to strengthen its lead in the title playoff table.

They are only ahead of second-placed Etoile du Sahel by three points.

Metloui is also in the race after swaggering over CS Sfaxien 3-1 at the Stade Municipal de Metloui.

Morocco/Egypt

No games were played in Morocco and Egypt owing to the international break but action resumes in both leagues on Friday 31st March.

The story is, however, different in Algeria. ES Setif, leaders of the Algerian top division got humbled by CR Belouizdad as top scorer Hamia’s penalty proved decisive.

It was the table-topping side’s fifth defeat of the ongoing league campaign. Notwithstanding, Setif still stays on top of the summit with eleven (11) points between them and second-placed USM Bel Abbes.

CA Batna, Mo Bejaia and JSK Kabylie occupy the bottom three.

South Africa

The razzle-dazzle returns in the South African Premier Soccer League this Saturday following the break with leaders Cape Town City up against eighth-placed Maritzburg United.

A point separates Cape Town City and second position Bidvest Wits who appears buoyed by likely winning its first title this term.

Nigeria

Plateau United did just what they thought of ABS – thrashing them 4-1 – to consolidate its crusade at the top. United leads by a solitary point.

It was the biggest score of the Nigerian Professional Football League’s week 15 fixtures.

At the bottom half, it was a spectrum of defeats for Sunshine Stars, Rivers United, champions Enugu Ranger, and Wikki Tourist who are on a serious goal wastefulness after selling top scorer Obaje to Ifeanyi Ufah.

Mountain of Fire and Miracle Football Club (MFM FC) is keeping it a close fight at second but suffered a setback on the weekend after losing to Gombe United 1-0.

Ghana

The international break had Ghana’s Premier League featuring only a single game as Wa All Stars entertained WAFA.

Matches are expected to be in full swing on Sunday.

Ashanti Kotoko and Aduana United are leveled on points at the apex of standings with each on seventeen (17) points. The latter though remains ahead on goal difference.

Cameroon

Eights games were played in Cameroon’s Elite One top division league. The season might be just six games old but Eding Sport is brimming with confidence at opening up an early gap.

They are vying for a come back after succumbing to Young Sport Academy 1-0 this weekend.

Eding is on twelve (12) points, one ahead of UMS de Loum.

Onetime league greats CotonSport, sits the in tenth position managing a return of six points in five games.

Kenya

It is two wins in two games for Gor Mahia who opened up a two-point lead atop after securing the bragging rights over Zoo Kericho at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Languishing at the bottom is champions Tusker who lost two of its games.

Chemelil bit the dust to Homeboyz 1-0 with second-placed Nzoia United drawing Mathare United and Muhoroni breezing past Karionagi Sharks, in around-up of other fixtures.

Elsewhere, the Sudanese Premier League had six of its local league matches suspended over the weekend with matches re-starting on Wednesday.

Al Hilal Kadougli fronts the league on seventeen (17) points in nine outings, losing only twice.

Senegal

Generation Foot feeder club to French side Metz, is subject of adulation making the summit its own in a debut season after gaining promotion from the second tier last term.

With only two loses, Generation Foot does not look bothered by the sale of few of its stars to French clubs prior to the start of the new season, bossing the lead on the table with six points between them and rivals Jaraaf.
