Desabre Named As New DR Congo Coach

The Democratic Republic of Congo Football Association (FECOFA) has appointed Frenchman Sebastien Desabre as the new coach of men’s national football team.

He has been handed a two-year contract ahead of March’s continuation of the group phase of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Desabre, who is currently in-charge of French Ligue 2 outfit Chamois Niortais Football Club, has been tasked with securing qualification for Ivory Coast. They share a group with Sudan, Gabon and Mauritania.

The 45-year-old doesn’t have much experience as a national team coach as he has only handled Uganda where he left in July 2017 after guiding the Cranes to the knockout stage of the AFCON for the first time since finishing as runners-up in 1978.

At club level Desabre has been a journeyman for his brief stints at ESC Rocheville (France) as an assistant, ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), CS Garoua (Cameroon) and ES Tunis (Tunisia).

Stints at Clube Recreativo Desportivo Libolo (Angola), Dubai Club (United Arab Emirates), JS Saoura (Algeria) Ismaily (Egypt) and Wydad Casblanca (Morocco) also litter his CV.

Desabre is under Belgian agent Joe Kanga who runs Sports Company named One Goal PRO that also handles other prominent coaches like Herve Renard, Alain Giresse and Hugo Broos, who led Cameroon to Africa title in 2017.
