Cranes Goalkeepers Coach Fred Kajoba Shown The Door

Uganda national team goalkeepers coach Fred Kajoba has been sacked from his position after “unacceptable” breach of Covid-19 quarantine guidelines.

Uganda national team goalkeepers coach Fred Kajoba has been sacked from his position after “unacceptable” breach of Covid-19 quarantine guidelines.

Kajoba, a staunch Catholic, was shown the door after reportedly leaving the Cranes’ camp on Christmas day to attend a mass at a local church in Kisassi, Kampala.

Uganda Cranes entered camp six days ago in preparations for Mini Tournament scheduled to run from 1st – 7th January 2021 in Yaoundé, Cameroon as part of preparations for CHAN tournament.

It’s understood that the Vipers head coach had sought clearance from Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry instead of the team doctor.

“FUFA has released one of the Uganda Cranes technical staff Fred Kajoba after not being able to observe the camp regulations at the Team Hotel in Kisasi which require all members of the contingent to follow the strict Covid-19 SOPs,” reads a statement released by FUFA on Christmas day.

Cranes will tussle it out with hosts Cameroon, Zambia and Niger in the Mini Tournament ahead of the Total CHAN 2020 Finals that kicks off on 14th January 2021.

“Kajoba will therefore not travel with the Uganda Cranes Contingent on Monday 28th December 2020 when they fly out of the country for a pre- CHAN tournament in Cameroon in preparation for the Total CHAN Finals that starts mid-January 2021,”  adds the statement.

“A replacement for the goalkeeping coach will be named by the FUFA Executive in due course.”

Uganda have been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Togo and East African neighbours Rwanda.

Their first match will be against Rwanda before playing the Hawks of Togo and final match against Morocco.
