CR Belouizdad Too Strong For Gor Mahia

CR Belouizdad stunned record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia with an emphatic 6-0 victory in Algeria.

CR Belouizdad stunned record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia with an emphatic 6-0 victory in Algeria on Saturday, in the first leg of their African Champions League second round.

It was the heaviest defeat ever suffered by the Kenyan giants in a Confederation of African Football (CAF) club competition.

CR Belouizdad began their rout against Gor Mahia in the seventh minute when Amir Sayoud put the hosts ahead to score his third goal this Champions League campaign.

Hamza Bellahouel added a second for Belouizdad four minutes later before Sayoud grabbed his brace in the 20th minute from the spot as Larbi Tabti ensured the Algerian champions headed to the break with a beautiful goal three minutes to the breather.

In the second half, Belouizdad continued with their onslaught with Sayoud completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute before Maecky Ngombo sealed the big win in the 67th minute.

The match was initially scheduled for December 23 but aborted as K’Ogalo were unable to access the locked Algerian air space.

Days before the trip, Gor Mahia players had threatened to boycott the fixture if they are not paid their dues.

Gor Mahia qualified for the next phase of the competition after they managed to secure a 4-3 aggregate win against APR of Rwanda in a two-legged affair.

On the other hand, CR Belouizdad reached the next round after a 4-0 aggregate win against Al Nasr of Libya.

A second leg defeat will see the Kenyan side relegated to the CAF Confederation Cup play-off round.
