CR Belouizdad Crowned Champions as Algeria Voids Season

CR Belouizdad were crowned champions of Algeria for the seventh time in history on Wednesday after the football season was cancelled in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

CR Belouizdad were crowned champions of Algeria for the seventh time in history on Wednesday after the football season was cancelled in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on Wednesday announced the move to hand the league title to log leaders Belouzidad.

The League had to be suspended in March due to the outbreak of Covid-19 which had originated from China and diffused in several areas around the world.

The global pandemic has forced many countries to end their football activities in order to inhibit the spread of the virus.

The Algerian league, which started in October, had only reached the halfway stage and was due to be completed in June.

FAF decided to declare Belouzidad champions of the Algeria top-flight after a ballot to determine the future of the uncompleted season.

This was after 96 out of 112 of its members voted to end the season as is, with the remaining 16 not sending their votes.

Belouzidad were leading the pack with 40 points and will now represent Algeria in the next CAF Champions League campaign alongside second-placed MC Alger.

ES Setif was placed third and will be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
