Coach Sacked by Top African Club Even After Winning Title

Al Ahly sack their foreign coach just a month after winning the domestic Premier league title.

A foreign coach has been sacked just a month after winning an African top club the domestic Premier league title.

Martin Lasarte is relieved of his duties after failing to secure Al Ahly the Egyptian Cup.

The Al Ahly board had set a high target of scooping four titles this season which included the CAF Champions League gong, Egyptian Cup, Super Cup and retaining the domestic league.

However, Uruguayan Lasarte missed out on the Egyptian Cup to arch-rivals Zamalek last weekend, a defeat which spurred the Ahly board into action.

An emergency meeting was summoned in the immediate aftermath of the game among club movers and shakers who opted to wield the axe on the coach after reaching a consensus.

The news comes as a shock even after the former Real Sociedad gaffer won the Red Devils the league trophy last month.

Prior to this, the 58-year-old’s position had become untenable owing to his failure to grab the Total CAF Champions League.

His understudy Mohammed Youssef has been named as interim until a “foreign technical director” is recruited.
