Chad Given Suspension By FIFA

FIFA has suspended Chad from international competition because of government interference in the sport.

The world governing body took the decision after the country’s sports minister dissolved the federation.

FIFA’s statutes prohibit governmental interference in sport.

“The suspension was prompted by the recent decisions of Chadian government authorities to permanently withdraw the powers delegated to the FTFA, establish a national committee for the temporary management of football and seize control of the FTFA’s premises,” reads part of FIFA’s statement.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“The suspension will be lifted once the relevant government decisions have been repealed and the FTFA and its management, led by President Moctar Mahamoud Hamid, have confirmed to FIFA that the FTFA premises are again under its control.”[/perfectpullquote]

The suspension means Chadian clubs and officials are banned from continental competitions.

The move comes just two weeks after Confederation of African Football banned Chad from participating on 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Chad were already out of the race to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals having managed only one point in four matches played in Group A.

The Les Saos do not have any upcoming international fixtures having been knocked out of 2022 World Cup qualifying by Sudan in 2019.
