Christian Moundi, the chairman of Cameroon second division side Roumdé Adjia FC, was shot dead on Saturday while standing on a balcony outside his house in Garoua.

According to reports circulating amongst central African nation media, Moundi was shot by armed gunmen as he prepared to get into the house to prepare his dinner few hours after his arrival from a local supermarket.

Moundi, who is a prominent businessman, was the owner of the Garoua based outfit and lived with his family in the capital city of the Northern region.

“The thugs took advantage of the rain that fell in Garoua to commit their crime. For the moment the body is in the morgue and the investigation is ongoing,” said a source close to the victim.

The club boss was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, while one of his neighbors was believed to be injured by the gunfire and rushed to a hospital.

Moundi’s club rose to prominence in 2009 where they narrowly missed to clinch Cameroon First Division league.

Nonetheless, the alleged death of Moundi has sent shockwaves throughout the Cameroon football fraternity and while details remain sketchy surrounding the incident, condolences are expected to pour in.
