CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has tested positive for COVID-19, Africa’s football governing body said in a statement on Friday.

CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has tested positive for COVID-19, Africa’s football governing body said in a statement on Friday.

Ahmad, who is 60 years old, is experiencing mild symptoms and will quarantine for 14 days at his hotel in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

All those who have come into close contact with Ahmad over the last seven days have been informed to self-isolate.

A statement read: “After his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday, October 28, Mr Ahmad Ahmad, President of CAF, presented mild flu symptoms, and submitted to the COVID-19 protocol. Today, the test results are positive. The President will immediately self-isolate for at least the next 14 days at his hotel.

“All those who have come into contact with Mr Ahmad over the past seven days – especially during his trip to Morocco for the Confederation Cup – have been informed and requested to take the necessary measures.”

Ahmad took charge of CAF in 2017 and at the present is the sole candidate who has submitted his candidacy for the next March elections.
