CAF Confirms Date For Super Cup

The 2021 CAF Super Cup final will take place in Doha, Qatar on December 22, 2021, it has been confirmed.

The Super Cup pits the winners of the African Confederation Cup against that of the African Champions League winners.

The one-off game was initially slotted to be held in Qatar on 24 September but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But, as per previous reports, it has now been confirmed by the continental football governing that Qatar will host the Super Cup on 22 December.

“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) today announced that the 2021 TotalEnergies Caf Super Cup will be hosted in Doha, Qatar on 22 December 2021,” a statement from Caf website read.

African Confederation Cup winners Raja Casablanca of Morocco will meet African Champions League final between Al Ahly of Egypt.

Raja they emerged as winners of the CAF  Confederation Cup after a 2-1 victory over JS Kabylie whereas Al Ahly won the CAF Champions League crown for the 10th time after securing a 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs

Al Ahly hold the record for the most African Super Cup wins with seven titles, followed by fellow Cairo-side Zamalek with four titles.

Since the first-ever Super Cup match was played in January 1993, it has only been four times that the Champions League winners have ended up on the losing side, with those occasions coming in 1993, 1998, 2012 and 2020.

On all of the other 23 finals, the Champions League holders have dominated the tie, and it is that fact which swings the pendulum in favor of record African champions Al Ahly.
