CAF Allows Fans To Attend CHAN 2020 Matches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given a green light for fans to attend the 2020 edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given a green light for fans to attend the 2020 edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon.

The three-week tournament will take place from 16 January to 7 February 2021 after it was rescheduled from April 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Cameroon’s Sports and Physical Education Minister Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, CAF has ordered that the number of the fans should be 25% of the full capacity of different stadia during the group matches.

“CAF has delivered a satisfactory certificate to Cameroon in which she indicates that the percentage of stadia occupation in line with health exigencies outlined by FIFA- 25% of spectators will be admitted in the different stadia during the first phase of the competition, that is group matches,” said Prof Mouelle Kombi as per Journal du Cameroun.

The percentage could rise to 50 during the knock-out phase of the competition on the condition that COVID-19 restrictions are respected by the fans.

It’s worth noting that a novel rule of making four substitutions, only in an event of extra time during the elimination stages of the competition, will be applied.

Cameroon are in Group A with Mali, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe while Group B comprises of Libya, DR Congo, Congo and Niger.

Group C has defending champions Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda and Togo while Group D has Zambia, Guinea, Namibia and Tanzania.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will face Zimbabwe in the tournament opener on January 16, 2021.
