Burundi Club Aigle Noir’s Team Bus Involved In Accident

Burundi Premier League side Aigle Noir was involved in a road accident on Saturday night, Ducor Sports can report.

The team was on its way to Kayanza Province to honor a match-day three fixture of the top-flight league against Top Junior.

There is no official statement from the club as yet but a source at the scene confirmed that the club bus lost control before running into a heavy duty vehicle.

Seven players and members of the technical bench are reported to have sustained minor injuries according to the source and were immediately rushed to Gitega Provincial General Hospital.

“It was a scary moment but they all managed to get out of the bus through the windows,” a source in Burundi’s capital told Ducor Sports on phone.

“The team is leaving for Bujumbura. It’s an awful experience but we thank God for their lives.”

Aigle Noir currently sit at the top of 16-team Burundi Premier League with four points from the two matches and the Sunday’s match against Top Junior has been postponed indefinitely.

Burundi’s roads are among the most dangerous in the Africa – killing thousands of people every year – due to poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
