Brian Mandela Returns To Maritzburg

Kenya international defender Brian Mandela could be re-signed by his former club Maritzburg in the January transfer widow.

Kenya international defender Brian Mandela could be re-signed by his former club Maritzburg in the January transfer window.

Mandela started training with the Team of Choice late last week after being released by the club at the end of last season and may pen a new contract with the team if he stays longer in the country.

The 25-year-old was previously linked with a move to Orlando Pirates but the deal failed to materialize after damaging cruciate ligaments while on a training camp with the national team.

“He’s been training with us but we are waiting for the final word from the club’s top organs,” a source at the club told Ducor Sports.

“If the two parties come to an agreement, we will definitely sign him because I hear Sundowns are also trailing him.”

A tall central defender with an impressive passing range and also good on the tackle, Mandela is one of the best defenders in Kenyan football at the moment.

He has been playing in South Africa since 2012 where joined for former PSL champions Santos from Kenyan side Tusker FC before Maritzburg United took him away in 2015.
