Senegal become the first African team to win a game in the Group Phase of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 47 years

The Lioness of Senegal have become the first African team to win a game in the Group Phase of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 47 years after defeating Latvia 70-69 today, September 23, 2018 at the Santiago Martin Arena.

After ending the first half with a point down, the Senegalese became more forceful in the third and fourth quarters with team captain Astou Traroe leading the scorers with 19 points, 4 assists.

It was a very close contest between the two sides as the scores kept going back and forth in the second half.

Omoula Sarr was leading the scoring chart for Senegal in the first and second quarters before captain Traore gave her help to help the Lioness make the long-awaited history.
