BREAKING NEWS: Club Africain’s Players Refuse to Train Over Unpaid Wages

Tensions are simmering at Tunisian Premier League side Club Africain after its players refused to train demanding payment in wages.

The entire Club Africain squad decided against training today, insisting they will only resume sessions if their wages are resolved.

The former CAF Champions League winners are struggling with financial problems despite finishing third best in the Tunisian Professionelle League.

How much the players are owed in salaries, isn’t mentioned but it’s believed to be at least more than two months pay.

The players have now made their stance known and have taken a drastic step to boycott the training ground in a bid to force club chairman and businessman Slim Riahi, to act quickly.

44-year-old Riahi, a top politician in Tunisia’s Free Patriotic Union, is now under pressure amid strong fears of a likely fans’ backlash.

Riahi’s popularity has dipped since the beginning of the season after failing to recruit star signings and the latest player protest only tends to alienate him more.

The situation has had tension brewing with the protest coming in as an unwanted distraction as the club prepares to face Nigeria’s Rivers United in the CAF Confederation Cup (CC Cup).

Africain is in a critical position in the CC Cup, tied with the other three teams on six points each in Group A.
