BREAKING: Kaizer Hire German to Replace Italian Gaffer

Ernest Middendorp has been appointed to fill the void created by the departure of Italian Giovanni Solinas as Kaizer Chiefs’ coach.

Ernest Middendorp has been appointed to fill the void created by the departure of Italian Giovanni Solinas as Kaizer Chiefs’ coach.

The South African Premier Soccer League outfit announced the appointment just hours following Giovanni’s mutual contract termination.

It’s a second coming for the 60-year-old German who first landed at the Johannesburg-based side in 2005, occupying the Amakhosi managerial helm for two years.

An erstwhile, Bundesliga gaffer, Ernest becomes the 19th foreign coach in the side’s 48-year history in which only four premier titles have been won.

He will be tasked with reviving the fortunes of the FNB stadium following the club’s dramatic fall from grace in the inter-club cup.

Solinas’ love affair with the SA outfit came to an abrupt end just 12 months into his 36-month long contract on the back of home and away losses to Zamamoto in the Total CAF Confederation Cup first round qualifiers.

Chiefs have managed a return of eighteen points in fourteen games, with four wins while conceding fourteen goals.

Last week’s trip to the Princess Magogo’s Stadium wrapped up dismally as Golden Arrow spanked them two goals before they managed to reduce the deficit later but it proved too late too little to spark a comeback.
