BREAKING: Etoile’s President Quits, Board Rejects Resignation

Ridha Charfeddine has called it quits with Tunisian premier league club Etoile Du Sahel but the club board has rejected his resignation, Ducor Sports understands.

The 67-year-old left his role as the Soussa-based club’s president after mounting pressure.

Etoile is battling financial issues and Ridha –elected to head the outfit in 2012 –thought he has had enough and chose to resign in a decision that came as a shock.

Charfeddine, who is also a representative in parliament, left his role yesterday in a letter to the club’s steering committee.

An emergency meeting was immediately summoned after Ridha’s resignation became public aimed at resolving the issue.

In a meeting with the board, the politician was convinced to stay put, according to club sources. A consensus was reached during this session in which the 67-year-old agreed to rescind his decision.

Meanwhile, the club issued a communiqué Monday evening to say they had rejected the president’s resignation expecting he resumes his role forthwith.

Etoile have accumulated a return of four points in two games in the league term.
