Big Name Coaches Eye Congo-Brazzaville job

Former Tunisia coach Alain Giresse, ex-Guinea boss Paul Put and Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf are among 62 applicants for Congo-Brazzaville’s vacant managerial post.

Ducor Sports understands that the Congo Football Federation (Fecofoot) has received a high volume of applications to succeed Barthélémy Ngastono.

A Fecofoot official, who does not want to be named, confirmed the list will now be narrowed down to three ahead of the interview stage.

Giresse, who has a wealth of experience in Africa having coached Gabon,Mali,Senegal and Tunisia, is among the candidates to have shown interest in assuming the top job that fell vacant following the exit of Ngatsono early April.

Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who guided Cameroon to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, is also keen on to take charge of Red Devils.

Also in the list is Congolese Florent Ibenge, currently in-charge of AS Vita Club and previously the manager of DR Congo national team.

Adel Amrouche- the current Botswana national team head coach- has also applied as has Isaac Ngata, who is currently in-charge of Congolese giants DC Motema Pembe.

Notable applicants like Paul Put, Patrice Carteron, Jorge Costa, Bernard Simondi, Abel Xavier and George Leekens have all worked in Africa.

Fecofoot have already indicated that they are hoping to announce the new Red Devils head coach by the end of April.

Congo-Brazzaville are set to participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June where they will meet Togo, Tunisia and Namibia in Group H.
