Bidvest Wits Part Ways With Forward Simon Murray

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits has parted ways with forward Simon Murray on mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits has parted ways with forward Simon Murray on mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

The striker had struggled to make a regular starting place for the team after sustaining an injury at the start of the 2019/2020 campaign.

In a statement on their website, the club says both sides decided to end the working relationship after receiving a clearance from its doctors.

“After two years at The Clever Boys, 28 year old UK born Murray returned to his home in Scotland on Friday 27 March 2020,” reads the statement.

“The club and the player mutually agreed for the player to return home after receiving the all-clear from the surgeon and the club’s medical team.

“The club wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

Murray was signed by the Clever Boys from Scottish side Hiberian in 2018 while having a year remaining on his contract.

In his debut season in Premier Soccer League, Murray made 27 appearances across competitions, where he managed eight goals and two assists.

The arrival of Cameroon-born striker Bienvenu Eva Nga triggered his exit from Wits as the club had to deregister him due to foreign quota rule.

South African league is currently on hold following the rapid spread of COVID-19 and is in a race against time to finish before the scheduled start of the next season.
