Barcelona Considering Possibility Of Selling Senegalese Defender Moussa Wague

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly looking to release Senegalese Moussa Wegue from his contract if they manage to secure a deal of a top striker.

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly looking to release Senegalese Moussa Wegue from his contract if they manage to secure a deal of a top striker.

According to Radio Catalunya, Barcelona is ready to ditch the defender and cut losses on him in the summer after manager Quique Setien sanctioned his release.

Wague joined Nice on a six-month-long loan deal in January and made five league appearances for the club before the season was interrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

But the French outfit decided not to exercise its €15 million option to sign the 21-year-old permanently, leaving him free to return to Barca.

Wague joined the Blaugrana in August 2018 in a move worth in the region of €5m from Belgian club Eupen and spent one season in the club’s B team before earning promotion to the first team.

He made six senior appearances to his name, three of those coming for the Blaugrana during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign and two during the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Wegue became the youngest African player to score at a World Cup in 2018 when he scored in Senegal’s 2-2 group stage draw with Japan.

He had reportedly attracted the attention of Premier League side West Ham United prior to his loan move to France.

The right-back has played for Senegal’s senior national team on 18 occasions.

Wegue was part of the Teranga Lions’ squad that reached the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
