“Balla Gaye is a Showman,” Says Modou Lo

Senegalese wrestler Modou Lo has thrown a jibe at his opponent labeling him a showman.

Senegalese wrestler Modou Lo has thrown a jibe at his opponent labeling him a showman.

The two are due to square January next year in a renewed clash of a bitter rivalry.

Several footages involving the duo in a verbal battle have been released with Modou Lo calling Balla Gaye a showman in the newest video dispatched by Lutte TV.

“Balla is a showman. In all his previous face-to-face, he will be talking as though he will kill his opponent. His utterances are empty words and they carry no weight. I’m sure he is moved,” the Parcshelle-based wrestler at one point said.

Gaye emerged supreme in the pair’s first meeting, trouncing Lo in 19 seconds and reminded of that, Modou insists he has matured.

“What happened in 2010 and now will be different. 2019 and 2018 aren’t the same. I will bundle him on the day of the fight.”

Gaye talked tough in his reply to a man considered one of the arena’s most skilled wrestlers.

He said: “He calls me a showman but that same showman defeated him in 19 seconds. I swear I’m not moved by him. They have been saying Modou Lo is a better boxer but believe me if he chooses to come at me in boxing, I will beat him up, and if he chooses freestyle too, I will wrestle him down. It was said that Gris Bordeaux is the best puncher in the arena and I have put him in his place.”

Modou and Balla recently had a face-to-face in France in the fight promoter’s attempt to reach out to Senegalese based in Paris.

Considered one of the most expensive combats ever staged in Senegal, the wrestlers, in a bid to further hype up an already thrill-promising contest, have released a single chastising and detailing how they will tackle one another come the D-day.

An unpleasant first fight

The stars were in their formative years when they first tussled but that too did not past without incidents.

It went beyond the case of two individuals earning a living by fighting to please fans, as the whole country became divided into two camps –Team Balla Gaye vs Team Modou Lo.

Vehicles carrying portraits of Modou Lo have been pelted and vandalized when they ply into territories where Balla Gaye has a huge following and vice versa.

It reached a level that Abdoulaye Wade –while he was president – had to force the two to sign a truce, in it, agreeing never to fight again.

However, giving the astronomical sums paid to them, those vows have been overlooked as the stars exercise circumspection in their tones, apparently to avoid a repeat of what happened in the past.

They asked their faithful to refrain from violence saying the melee is between them alone.
