Algeria Climb 28 Places in FIFA Rankings

Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria have risen 28 places to sit 40^th in the latest FIFA ranking that was released on Thursday by the world soccer ruling body, Ducor Sports reports.

The Desert Foxes move from 12^th place to fourth in Africa behind top-ranked side Senegal, who they beat 1-0 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals played a fortnight ago.

Senegal, who have occupied the summit for almost nine months now, rose two positions and now sit 20^th in the world, up from 22^nd.

Nations Cup semi-finalists Tunisia have maintained their second position in Africa though they dropped four positions globally as they are 29^th.

Leaders Belgium maintained a slender lead while Brazil moved second while 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia winners France fell to third position.

England (4th, unchanged), however, are looking over their shoulders somewhat as Uruguay (5th, up 3) leapfrogged Portugal (6th, down 1).
