Al Hilal’s Gerald Phiri Named In Malawi Squad

Al Hilal midfielder Gerald Phiri has been named in Malawi’s provisional squad for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in Cameroon on January 9.

The Flames’ head of technical Mario Marinica on Wednesday announced a 35-man squad for the tournament, which has been delayed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

South Africa based trio of striker Khuda Muyaba, midfielder Richard Mbulu and defender Chembezi Denis are all in the squad that has over 14 players on standby.

Mozambique-based duo of captain John Banda and Schumacher Kuwali have made the cut alongside  Ethiopia-based Robin Ngalande.

Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves players Clever Mkungula, David Daudi and Innocent Msowoya together with Kelvin Kazinje, Andrew Lameck, Emmanuel Nyirenda, Wisdom Mpinganjira, Chikondi Mbeta, Mphatso Kamanga and Lloyd Njaliwa have been dropped from the squad.

The Flames are in camp in preparation for the 2021 TotalErnegies Africa Cup of Nations scheduled between January 9 and February 6 in Cameroon and are expected to camp in Saudi from this weekend.
