Al Ahly Winger To Miss Egyptian Super Cup

Al Ahly manager Rene Weiler has confirmed injured winger Ramadhan Sobhi will miss the Egyptian Super Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Al Ahly manager Rene Weiler has confirmed injured winger Ramadhan Sobhi will miss the Egyptian Super Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Sobhi suffered thigh injury last December during training and was expected to be out for around four to six weeks.

But Weiler has said Sobhi will not travel to Dubai, where his team face Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup set to be played on Thursday at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium.

“Sobhi won’t be available as he isn’t fully fit despite his recent participation in training,” the coach explained.

The Egyptian international was integral to Al Ahly before the injury, having started all of their games in the league.

The 22-year-old has contributed to five goals and an assist in nine games played across all competitions this season.

Al Ahly found form without him after New Year and are now leading the league table with 45 points after 16 round of matches.

The Red Castle are also supposed to face Zamalek for the second time in just a week in the Egyptian league derby next Monday.

“The confrontations this time with Zamalek is completely different than the previous one last year and every match has its own preparations,” he said.

“It is like playing at home when we play in UAE. Generally, our opponents who face us away do good efforts and so do we. We prepare well for every match,” the Ahly coach concluded.
