Al Ahly striker Junior Ajayi will be sidelined for up to three months with an ankle ligament injury, the club’s football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has confirmed.

Ajayi, who can operate as a striker or winger, picked up the injury in the African Champions League final against Zamalek which ended 2-1 last month.

“It’s an ankle injury; it has nothing to do with Achilles. He will need between two and three months of treatment,” Abdel-Hafiz  told Al Ahly’s channel as quoted by Ahram on Monday.

Ajayi joined the Red Devils from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in 2016 and he was handed a three-year contract extension in February 2019.

The Nigerian forward Ajayi has made 93 appearances for Al Ahly, scoring 28 goals while assisting 19, making him one of the most successful foreign players in the club’s history.

He was forced to miss the first-half of the 2018/2019 season due to a serious injury he picked at the end of the previous season. However, he has excelled following his return, scoring three goals in eight appearances.

He was part of the Al Ahly squad that completed a CAF Champions League, Egyptian Premier League, Egyptian FA Cup treble last season which was the club’s first since 2007.
