Al Ahly Releases Junior Ajayi

Nigerian winger Junior Ajayi has been released from his contract which still had seven months remaining after coming to an agreement with the club to allow him to leave.

The Red Devils have confirmed that the 25-year-old striker, who has been in loggerheads with the club administration for over four months, has severed his ties with the club.

A statement from the club website read; “ Nigerian winger Junior Ajayi has left Al Ahly by mutual consent. The club and player have come to a mutual agreement to allow him to pursue his career elsewhere.”

Ajayi had seven months remaining on his contract withal Ahly but was unhappy about having fallen out of favour since the arrival of coach Pitso Mosimane.

He arrived at the Egyptian Premier League giants from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in 2016 and had been a crucial first team player for past three seasons before falling in pecking order due to injuries.

Al Ahly had already indicated that he is willing to listen to offers for Ajayi due to the fact that though he wasn’t a regular anymore he was still on a high package at the club.

Ajayi has made 103 appearances for Al Ahly, scoring 30 goals while assisting 21, making him one of the most successful foreign players in the club’s history.
