In a statement on the club website the Egyptian Premier League giants said the former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach will self-isolate at home after testing positive for the deadly virus.

The 56-year-old was on the touchline on Sunday where he guided the Red Devils to a 3-1 win against Misr Lel Makkasa in a league match.

“Al Ahly’s head coach Pitso Mosimane tested positive for Covid-19‚” the club said on Wednesday.

The experienced coach will now miss the second round match of Egyptian Premier League on Friday where Al Ahly are scheduled to meet Ghazl El-Mahalla.

In his absence, the team will be under the guidance of Mosimane’s assistants, Cavin Johnson and Samy Komsan.

Mosimane joined Al Ahly in September and guided the team to their first African Champions League title since 2013 last month.

He also guided the Club of the Century to a 3-2 victory over El Geish on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the Egyptian Cup final earlier this month.
