Al Ahli Tripoli Handed Walkover Victory Over Biashara United

Libya club Al Ahli Tripoli was handed a walkover victory over Tanzania’s Biashara United Mara on Saturday in Benghazi following the visitors’ failure to travel to the North African country for the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup first round due to logistical reasons.

Match officials at the Benina Martyrs Stadium acknowledged the absence of Biashara United for the meeting and declared the Tanzanian Premier League side forfeit.

Al Ahli Tripoli proceeded for a walkover thus booking their place in the third preliminary round of the competition.

Biashara United earlier wrote to CAF to move the encounter to a neutral venue after their failed to get permits to fly chattered plane.

However, the African football governing body’s lack of response implied that the game ought to hold at the original venue.

The Libyan football federation had given the Tanzanian security and accommodation guarantee, but seemed not enough to convince the visitors to make the trip.

A source close to Biashara United had told Ducor Sports that CAF had written back to them indicating openness to look postpone the match but no official communication came from the continental body showing the match the match was off.

Biashara United won the first leg 2-0 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium a week ago and the Tanzanians was set to travel on Tuesday for the away leg on Saturday.
