African Champions League: Esperance To Face ES Setif In Quarterfinal

Esperance de Tunis have been pitted against ES Setif in the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The Blood and Gold were always going to face difficult African sides despite finishing top of Group C in the group stage.

Radhi Jaidi’s men will have to travel to Algiers for the first leg before hosting the two-time African champions in Tunis in the return leg.

Esperance lifted the CAF Champions League trophy in 2019, and are looking to win only their fifth continental crown later this year.

They finished their group stage last weekend unbeaten and they remain the only Tunisia side in the competition following the exit of CS Sfaxien.

Meanwhile, holders Al Ahly will face Raja Casablanca in the other match. The two sides are former African football giants and this promises to be an exciting affair.

ES Setif’s arch-rivals, CR Belouizdad, have drawn Wydad Casablanca in another quarter-final match which is likely to produce fireworks.

Lastly, Petro du Luanda who finished second behind Wydad Casablanca in Group D, will battle Mamelodi Sundowns for a place in the semi-finals.

The winner between Esperance de Tunis and ES Setif will face the winner between Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca.

This means the winner Petro du Luanda and Sundowns will come up against the winners between CR Belouizdad and Wydad Casablanca.
