Africa to Get Nine Automatic Slots at the 2026 World Cup

FIFA has ratified the decision to give Africa nine automatic places at the 2026 World Cup. This has come after the FIFA members voted to expand the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams in January.

Africa gets 9 slots from the previous 5

Asia gets 8 slots from 4.5

North and Central America gets 6 slots from previous 3.5

South America gets 6 slots from previous 4.5 slots

Oceania gets 1 slot from previous 0.5

Europe gets 16 slots from previous 13

The final two places for 2026 will be decided by six-team play-offs.
