Absa Premiership: Chippa’s New Manager Suffers Defeat To City

Cape Town City beat Chippa United 1-0 in their first clash in the South Africa’s Absa Premiership bio-bubble restart.

Cape Town City beat Chippa United 1-0 in their first clash in the South Africa’s Absa Premiership bio-bubble restart.

This was the first match in charge for Chippa United coach Lehlohonolo Seema and it was not the kind of debut they had wished for with a first half striker from Kermit Erasmus condemning the Chilli Boys to their ninth loss this campaign.

Chippa were looking to complete a double against City this season but were left ruing their missed chances, especially one in the 12th minute, when the ball hit the bar twice.

They were unable to convert their dominance, and in fact it was the Citizens who scored the only goal of the game through Kermit on 17th minute when he headed home unmarked at the edge of the six-yard box.

The powerful header was a connection from a pin-point cross delivered by Fargie Lakay, who positioned himself well to regain possession after a Chippa throw-in.

Lehlohonolo Seema’s side was reduced to ten-men in closing stages when Kevin Moyo received his second yellow card of the match.

The victory took Cape Town City to the ninth spot in the league standings, while the Chippa United remained 12th on the log.

Seema recently took over the reins from Rhulani Mokwena, and it now means he will have to wait a little longer for his first win as the head coach of Chippa.
