Congolese Constant Omari Takes Charge As CAF Interim President

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) first Vice-President Constant Omari has been appointed as the interim lead of the confederation executive until March 2021.

A brief statement on the CAF website said that following FIFA’s decision to suspend CAF president Ahmad Ahmad for a period of five years for breaching its Code of Conduct, Omari now becomes the interim president until next elections.

Omari had been in charge of the confederation since November 16 after Ahmad decided to delegate his roles after recently contracting coronavirus.

“In accordance with its statutes, CAF announces that the current interim of Mr. Constant Selemani Omari as President of CAF is extended,” read a statement on CAF portal.

Omari, the president of the Congo Football Federation, was elected to the FIFA Council in 2015, one of seven Africans on the 37-member board headed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The 60-year-old replaced Nigerian FA boss Amaju Pinnick as Confederation of African Football vice president in July last year.
