Uganda End Football Season, Declares Vipers Champions

Uganda has ended its domestic football league over coronavirus pandemic.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) announced Wednesday that it was unable to continue with the remaining fixtures of the 2019-2020 StarTimes Premier League.

The decision was reached after an agreement with stakeholders and upon advice from the Health ministry.

As of Wednesday, Uganda had recorded 260 cases, according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

The 16-team top tier league was at the time preparing for round 25 before it was suspended.

However, FUFA said the current table standings will be considered as final-a decision declaring Vipers SC champions.

Vipers- who will represent Uganda in the Africa Champions League-had 47 points by round 25, four ahead of second-placed KCCA who will represent the country in the Confederations Cup.

Myda FC, who were on top of the FUFA Big League before the suspension of football have earned a promotion to the top flight league alongside UPDF.

Ahead of the new season, whose start date is yet to be known, Kiboga, Kataka, Kitara and Ndejje will play two-legged play-offs to determine which team plays in the Startimes Premier League.
